In the first quarter of this year, Dubai saw an 11% increase in tourists. The Emirate continued to profit from a recovery in demand for travel worldwide following the coronavirus outbreak. According to figures released by the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET), the Emirate received 5.18 million foreign overnight visitors from January to March 2024. It is up from 4.67 million tourist visits during the same period the previous year.

Following a record number of visitors to the emirate last year, the number of visitors in the first quarter of 2024 suggests that Dubai is poised for yet another exceptional year, according to Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Emirate’s Executive Council. This measure is expected to sustain the tourism industry’s upward trajectory in harmony with the goals of the Dubai Economic Agenda (D33). It seeks to enhance the city’s standing as a preeminent worldwide hub for both business and pleasure.

According to Issam Kazim, chief executive of the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing, who spoke to The National on the fringes of the Arabian Travel Market in Dubai, the rise in tourism is the result of improved airline capacity worldwide following the Covid-19 pandemic and an increasing number of Chinese tourists, who were a significant market for the emirate in 2019.

Today, they are more adept at using various platforms, channels, and communication tools to get the appropriate product in front of the right people at the right time, which greatly assists them, he stated. Dubai, a city well-known for its opulent lodgings, is reaping the benefits of a 2014 initiative to promote the construction of additional three- and four-star establishments, providing more reasonably priced lodging options for a greater range of tourists.

Over the years, they have also been able to significantly expand the product offering from the three- and four-star market. After speaking with all of the industry’s partners and stakeholders, they’ve found that they’ve become very adept at timing the pricing of their products to maximise sales. According to Mr. Kazim, they’ve witnessed a significant increase in occupancy on their end.
