Diwali falls on Sunday, November 8 this year, and celebrations across the UAE begin the week before. If you live in an Emaar-managed community in Dubai, there’s a reminder to read before you light anything.

Fireworks Are Off  The Table

In a notice dated November 6, Emaar Community Management told residents that setting off fireworks during Diwali is strictly prohibited. The ban follows local authority regulations, and residents have been asked to cooperate so the celebrations stay safe and enjoyable for everyone. It is framed as a reminder rather than a new rule.

The Rules For Diyas And Candles

The notice also covers the lamps at the heart of the festival. Residents are asked to take three precautions when lighting candles and diyas at home:

  • Keep them away from flammable materials.
  • Never leave a lit candle or diya unattended.
  • Do not light them in common areas, which is strictly prohibited.

The aim, according to the notice, is to prevent fire hazards while families celebrate. Think of the everyday risks: a diya too close to curtains, cushions or paper decorations. Emaar Community Management closed by wishing residents a happy and safe Diwali.

Why The Fireworks Rule Is Firm Across The UAE

Emaar isn’t alone in drawing a hard line. Sharjah Public Prosecution has warned that possessing, trading or promoting fireworks without a licence is a criminal offence under UAE law, because fireworks are classed as hazardous materials of an explosive nature.

Under Federal Decree Law No. 17 of 2019, trading, manufacturing or importing fireworks without authorisation can mean at least one year in prison, a minimum fine of Dh100,000, or both. Promoting fireworks online carries separate penalties, with fines of up to Dh1 million.

Other Ways To Mark The festival

If a few diyas feel too quiet, plenty of festivals, temple celebrations and community events are planned across the UAE for Diwali 2026. Some Indian curriculum schools have also adjusted their calendars, announcing five-day breaks so families have extra time to celebrate and travel.

The simplest way to stay on the right side of the rules is to check your own community’s notice before the festivities begin. Lamps indoors, nothing lit in common areas, and the fireworks left for the organised displays.
