Ellora Caves To Become India’s First Heritage Destination To Have Hydraulic Lifts

The renowned Ellora Caves of Maharashtra will soon be equipped with hydraulic lifts for the convenience of tourists. This will be the first heritage destination in India to have the facility. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site and receives a large number of tourists. The ancient temple complex is home to cave structures of Buddhist, Hindu and Jain importance that date back to 600-1000 CE. Ellora lies in Maharashtra’s Aurangabad district, around 30 kilometres away from Aurangabad city.

The Lifts Will Be Installed At Kailasha Temple Of Ellora Caves

Inside the Ellora cave complex, lies a double-storeyed single monolith known as the Kailasha Cave Temple. As per the proposal of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), the lifts will come up on either side of the structure. The Kailasha Temple is Cave 16 inside the temple complex. It has a staircase and also a wheelchair-friendly ramp for the movement of visitors. With the introduction of these lifts, technology will be mingled the old-world charm, making the destination more tourist-friendly.

The Complex Will Have More Ticket Counters And Selfie Points

Apart from the hydraulic lifts, ASI is preparing to carry out more developmental projects at the site. As per the plans, more ticket counters will be introduced at the location. Toilet blocks will be set up with disposal machines for sanitary pads. Some paintings will have lights for better visibility. Electric vehicle services are also set to come up inside the cave.
