Emergency Chain Fails To Stop Train After Boy Falls; X Post Claims Authorities Provided Zero Help

A now-viral video has brought attention to a deeply concerning incident aboard a Jalpaiguri-Ramnagar train. A young boy reportedly fell from the moving train, and when fellow passengers tried to halt it by pulling the emergency chain, it failed to respond, raising serious safety concerns among passengers and across social media.

Emergency Chain Fails To Halt Train After Boy Falls

The viral video, shared on X (formerly Twitter) by @rameshofficial0, shows a young girl crying helplessly for her brother, who reportedly fell from a moving Jalpaiguri-Ramnagar train. As she called out for help, fellow passengers sprang into action and pulled the emergency chain, but the train failed to stop.

According to the post, both the Train Ticket Examiner (TTE) and the railway helpline allegedly did not respond to the emergency. The video also captures passengers trying to comfort the distraught girl as she cries for her brother. “The video exposes this shocking Railway system failure,” the caption read.

Social Media Raises Questions About Passenger Safety

The video has left fellow passengers and social media users deeply distressed, sparking widespread outrage and urgent questions about passenger safety and the Indian Railways’ emergency protocols. Many have called it “absolute negligence,” while others questioned the very purpose of emergency chains if they fail to work when needed most. Netizens also sought updates on the young boy, but the X user said there was no news yet.

“It’s deeply concerning—pulling the alarm chain is meant to stop the train quickly in emergencies, so a failure like that needs a proper inquiry,” one of the comments read.

“If passengers didn’t get help from staff or helplines, that’s a serious lapse. Incidents like this should be reported to the authorities so accountability is fixed and safety protocols are improved,” one of the netizens wrote.

Another user commented, “What’s the point of an emergency chain if the train doesn’t stop at such a time? If a passenger falls and no action is taken, that’s pure negligence. Indian Railways should immediately investigate and take strict action against those responsible—passenger safety is not optional.”

“Shocking negligence. When even the emergency chain fails, what safety can passengers trust?” another user wondered.

“I always thought pulling the chain would stop the train, but now I feel scared. There should be a checking inspector for every trip to check these & sign the papers–we need some accountability,” another X user commented.

FAQs

What should you do in case of an emergency on a train?

Immediately alert nearby passengers and railway staff. Use the emergency chain (if necessary), contact onboard staff like the Train Ticket Examiner (TTE), or call railway helpline numbers such as 139 for assistance.

How does the emergency chain work?

Pulling the emergency chain activates the train’s braking system, causing it to stop. It is meant strictly for genuine emergencies such as accidents, medical issues, or someone falling off the train.

Is pulling the emergency chain allowed?

Yes, but only in real emergencies. Misuse of the emergency chain without a valid reason is a punishable offence under Indian Railways rules.
