On June 5, the world celebrated Environment Day. As a part of doing something for the sustainable future of the people, Emirates has decided to do something special for society. Yes, as a part of an environmental strategy with a commitment to consuming the responsibility, the airline is repurposing more than 50,000 kg of aircraft material. Here’s all about it!

Emirates To Repurpose Seat Fabric Into Bags

Emirates as a part of its environmental strategy, they are personally producing thousands of hand-made children’s backpacks and school bags. This will then be donated in Africa and Asia, later this year. With the aim of supporting early education, this move also minimises waste.

For this purpose, the Emirates Engineering Team has been asked to find a way to reap the fabrics from the economy class seats of 22 A380 aircraft. In fact, 5,205 kg of scrap material has been recovered, which includes seat fabrics. Yes, this includes 95% and 5% nylon composition and both of flat weave structure. Sourced from Germany and Ireland, this material has been identified to be perfect upcycling for its durability and nonflammable nature.

In fact, a dedicated team of tailors are creatively designing a range of backpacks for children of different ages. Additionally, the team spent a lot of time researching bag style to ensure that these bags are not just safe and comfortable but even fit for the purpose they are being made. These fabrics have been freshly launched in a facility and then have gone under deep cleansing by hand. They’ve been conditioned for leather accents, which have been featured on some bags. After being thoroughly disinfected, these will be sewn into unique pieces with brand-new lining, functional zippers, and adjustable straps.

This noble task is bound to bring smiles on the faces of children who receive them later this year.
