There is something about a good Sunday brunch that gets people talking, and this one came with quite a few stories from the film industry. On the latest episode of Sunday Brunch With Kamiya Jani, Kamiya brought together Keerthy Suresh and Radhika Apte at Chef Rajji’s Supper Club in Mumbai. The table was treated to a rather indulgent Maharashtra-Karnataka spread, with dishes such as neer dosa, gassi, vade, yam sukka, coconut chutney and donne biryani making an appearance.
Keerthy Suresh Always Knew She Wanted To Become An Actor
Between digging into the food and catching up on all things cinema, the conversation took an interesting turn when Keerthy spoke about growing up, her mother’s influence on her career and the one thing her parents absolutely wanted her to finish before she entered films.
Keerthy’s childhood, as she recalled, involved a fair bit of travelling between two cities. Born in Trivandrum, she spent her growing-up years moving between Chennai and the Kerala capital. Chennai eventually became an important part of her life, particularly when it came to her education. She pursued her undergraduate studies there, but acting was never really a career she stumbled upon later in life. It was something she had wanted for as long as she could remember.
When Kamiya Jani asked her if becoming an actor had always been the plan, Keerthy’s answer was an unequivocal yes. And with her mother, Menaka, being an actor herself, the inclination perhaps ran in the family. Having watched her mother navigate the film industry from such close quarters, Keerthy Suresh had her own reasons for wanting to be in front of the camera. However, there was one little hurdle before she could get there; her parents wanted her to complete her education first.

Keerthy Suresh Reveals Why Her Parents Wanted Her To Finish Her Education
The reason behind their insistence was particularly interesting. Keerthy Suresh revealed that her mother had entered films at a very young age and eventually became the breadwinner of the family. With work taking precedence, Menaka Suresh never got the opportunity to complete her education. Her parents, therefore, were keen that their daughter should not have to make the same compromise. They wanted Keerthy to have an educational qualification to fall back on, regardless of which career she eventually chose.
But Keerthy Suresh was already quite certain about hers. Having completed Class 12, she was ready to make her move into acting and, in her own words, wanted her parents to just let her become an actor. It was not a passing fascination or a decision made on a whim. She knew what she wanted, even if her parents wanted her to take the slightly longer route.
Looking back, that conversation over brunch offered a rather lovely glimpse into the person behind the performances. Her mother’s journey shaped her ambition, while her parents’ experiences shaped the conditions under which she pursued it. And Keerthy clearly had no plans of letting go of that childhood dream.
