First-Of-Its-Kind, 14 AI-Powered Pedestrian Crossing Systems Implemented At Dubai Silicon Oasis

Have you ever wondered about what kind of a system is followed at crosswalks? Well in a truly futuristic style, 14 AI-powered pedestrian crossings have been launched in a community in Dubai. Implemented after two years of extensive testing, this newest addition to the emirate is making quite a splash! Here is all you need to know about the new crossing system.

14 AI-Powered Pedestrian Crossing System Launched In Dubai

Pedestrian crossing in Dubai is now going to be a lot more interesting. We say this because 14 smart pedestrian crossing systems have now been launched in the Dubai Silicon Oasis. So, what’s special about these smart crossing systems is that they are powered by artificial intelligence (AI). Yes, in a report by Dubai Media Office, it was revealed that with real-time perception and connectivity, this system has been designed for detecting pedestrians, cyclists, and other road users. Additionally, it has also been designed by AI platform in Dubai Silicon Oasis to track vehicles and other vulnerable road users who approach the crosswalk.

As a result, it helps to maximise the effectiveness of the system, which is based on the reaction time of the approaching vehicle. This first-of-its-kind system also offers flexibility for activating and deactivating alerts! Not to mention, it also allows for controlling the duration and even allows customisation based on a specific crosswalk scenario. Developed by Derq, it uses behaviour-prediction models and uses flashing warning signs. Moreover, it also uses traffic signal controllers and in-road warning lights when a pedestrian walks towards the crossing. Did you know this technology has been implemented after two years of extensive testing? Well, it is expected that in the future, it will be able to leverage 5G communication technologies and even send alerts to the connected vehicles approaching the crosswalk. Brilliant, isn’t it?

What do you think about this interesting development? Have you seen these smart crossings, yet?
