With climate change getting worse by the day and environmental issues are at the fore of the next generation’s concerns. Many youngsters are brainstorming solutions to help inhibit the climate crisis. A group of zealous class 10 students ended up creating an eco-friendly solution to beat the heat. What started as a school project ended up becoming an innovative solution to a widespread problem. Uday Singh, Armaan Sharma, V Sahi Seshadri, Sourish Grover and Lakshya Goswami from Shiv Nadar School created what they decided to call ‘Zephyrus.’

They noticed that the summer heat was starting to become unbearable. Despite having access to high-end cooling systems like centralised air conditioners most of the time, they felt the horridness of the heat. This made them think of those who didn’t have the privilege of air conditioners and coolers.

They, therefore, decided to make a cooling device for people who couldn’t afford expensive air conditioners and coolers. This portable cooling system is also very cost-effective and cheap to make. When compared to other more traditional cooling devices Zephyrus’s carbon footprint is minimal.

The reason that Zephyrus manages to cool effectively while being eco-friendly is because it utilises what is known as the Peltier principle. This principle removes the requirement of an external cooling agent. It creates a dual effect so Zephyrus can also be used as a heater.

Currently, the students are also brainstorming solutions to incorporate solar panels into their creation so that they can further reduce their carbon footprint. The device is currently priced at ₹5,500. This is cheaper than traditional coolers. People who cannot afford a cooler will definitely be able to afford this eco-friendly device.

An article published by India Today, they said that they identified this issue in the brainstorming round of their school project. During this round, they are supposed to identify a problem, the solution to which they must provide in the later rounds.
