On our recent episode of Tere Gully Mein, we caught up with the fabulous actress Barkha Singh and explored Mumbai’s Colaba Causeway with her. During this episode, we not only got to dive into her journey to becoming an actress but also learnt about her college days, studying at St. Xavier’s College. We even tested her bargaining skills and got the scoop on her favourite eateries around Mumbai. She also shed light on her first day at college; read on to find out how it went!
Barkha Singh Revealed Her Favourite Spot In The College
Standing right outside St. Xavier’s College, Barkha Singh reminisced about those fun-filled days. We were curious to know what her first day was like: was she extremely nervous, or did she make a full heroine-style entry to college? Barkha instantly replied, “I was quite nervous.” She revealed that she had actually wanted to attend Jai Hind College, mainly because of its comparatively liberal dress code.
Barkha shared that, unlike Jai Hind, St. Xavier’s didn’t allow students to wear shorts or the colour red. Sleeveless tops and even showing your ankles, let alone knees, were not permitted. We totally get why this college wasn’t her top choice!
Continuing on her college days, she revealed that the highlight of that era was definitely academics, as she was a studious person. Talking about the campus, she shared that the two best spots in college were the foyer and the canteen. She started listing the canteen’s offerings and revealed that it had a live dosa station, a Chinese station, a biryani station, sandwich and pasta stations, a thali station, and an ice cream station—pretty much everything you could dream of eating! With so much variety, students hardly ever felt the need to step out in search of good food.

She Loves Coming Back As An Alumnus
Later in the episode, Barkha Singh revealed that this wasn’t her first time visiting the college post-graduation. In fact, she has returned quite a few times as a guest and judge at Malhar, the college fest. She spoke about the immense love she receives every time she visits, thanks to being an ex-student. Adding a funny anecdote, she shared that the college has a lift that students are not allowed to use—but when you come back as a guest, even if you need to go up just one floor, you’re allowed to use it. It always makes her feel super special!
