Amar Singh Chamkila, also known as ‘Elvis of Punjab’ was famous for his exceptional manner of singing with excellent vocals and vibrant lyrics along with playing tumbi. His songs became popular as the lyrics were inspired by the Punjabi rural lifestyle. Some of his hits were songs like ‘Pehle Lalkare Naal’ and ‘Jatt Di Dushmani’.

His wife, Amarjot Kaur was a female vocalist in his musical band. She was a significant member of the band because Chamkila’s popularity increased after uniting with Kaur. They eventually fell in love and got married. Also, were an electrifying duo in the Punjabi music industry.

Amar Singh Chamkila’s tragic death scene was shot exactly at the actual real-life location of his demise. The entire event was exactly recreated in broad daylight in Jalandhar’s Mehsampur. Right before the scheduled musical performance on March 8, 1988, Chamkila was shot dead. It was alleged that the All India Sikh Student Federation plotted to murder him due to his denial to sing what they considered vulgar songs.
