These 4 Stunning Real-Life Filming Locations Of Dune 2 Should Be On Your Bucketlist

The most highly anticipated sci-fi film of the year is here and it is making ripples through cinephiles and others! Dune 2 is the second installment of this incredible sci-fi series based on the novel by Frank Herbert. Denis Villeneuve made his fans wait for almost three years before releasing the sequel and it was all worth the wait. The star-studded cast with Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Javier Bardem, Rebecca Ferguson, Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Josh Brolin, Dave Bautista and more brilliantly took us back to the land of Arrakis! What is interesting is that some of the breathtaking scenes, well, not quite literally, because all the sand would go in, just couldn’t help it. As I was saying, some incredible scenes of Dune 2 were not on green screens but in real-life filming locations! Let’s check them out.

4 Mesmerising Real-Life Filming Locations Of Dune 2

1. Wadi Rum, Jordan

Wadi Rum was featured in the first installment of Dune and is a perfect location to shoot ‘The Martian’ type of sand and desert planet with such harsh climate and bright red sandy landscapes of Arrakis. Denis Villeneuve preferred real-life locations for filming because he wanted his audience to feel the realness of Arrakis. It is safe to say the shots from Wadi Rum look other-worldly! It is a beautiful place for a travel destination with Lawrence Spring, Lawrence House, Burdah Rock Bridge and more.

2. Liwa Oasis, Abu Dhabi

This was the place where the gruesome sandstorms and rock shelters of Fremens people were shot for Dune 2. With this film, the team went deeper into the desert to capture those perfect cinematography shots. That too, there were the rolling dunes which go up to 300 m in height. Abu Dhabi was a huge part of the first sci-fi film, hence it is easier to club the stunning landscapes of Abu Dhabi and Jordan for the exteriors of Arrakis. For travel, head over to the Louvre Abu Dhabi, the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, the Observation Deck at 300 and more.

3. Budapest, Hungary

Enough of the sandy talks! Now it is time to move over to the much-talked-about battle scenes. It was done at Origo Film Studios, the largest movie studio to ever exist in Hungary. By doing this, they were able to handle explosions and the outcomes more. Apart from this, Budapest is such a pretty country with a rich heritage, architectural marvels and culture that will invite you in just like home.

4. Treviso, Italy

In Dune 2, the extravagant home of Princess Irulan and the Corrino is filmed in Altivole. This is a world opposite of Fremen’s desert wasteland and the gorgeous Italian architecture helps to showcase the contrasting differences between Corrinos and the Fremens. Memoriale Brion is a burial ground for the Brion family. Also, over here the hue of the cinematography changed to grey, another contrast. Visit places like Piazza dei Signori, Palazzo dei Trecento and more when you are here.
