A gift card is the best present you can give to any traveller. And that’s what the city of Geneva, Switzerland, is now offering. In a bid to revive tourism after the coronavirus pandemic, the swiss city is offering a $109 (AED 400) gift card to the travellers. Valid until 31 December 2020, the gift card can be used at restaurants, bars, hotels and varied attractions across the city.

Geneva is home to the headquarters of the World Trade Organization and the World Health Organization. It also houses to the second-largest branches of the United Nations and World Bank.

The gift card includes more than 60 hotels, 15 outings, and about 80 restaurants. Not only the regular restaurants, but you can use the card at Michelin-starred restaurants as well. The full list of outlets taking part in this initiative is available on the city’s official tourism website.  However, there’s a catch to it. To avail the gift card, you should have booked at least two nights of stay in the city of Geneva. Valid till year-end, you get one card per room, which can be used as per your wish.

Offer Can Be Availed Only By EU-Approved Countries

For now, this offer can be availed by tourists from within the Schengen States or the EU-approved safe list of countries that are permitted to travel to Switzerland. However, lately, Switzerland has added entries from the UAE and Saudi Arabia to its compulsory quarantine list. It means that when restrictions are lifted, tourists from the UAE and KSA won’t have to self-isolate when landing in Switzerland. However, as per the latest guidelines, passengers arriving from Oman, Kuwait and Bahrain would still have to quarantine on arrival. 

Switzerland Rated As The Safest Country For Travellers In 2020

Switzerland has been ranked as the safest country in the world for 2020 by the travel insurance comparison website, Insurly. The website developed the 2020 Ranking of the World’s Safest Countries and Switzerland is perched right at the top. Insurly analysed countries on a number of parameters including the quality of healthcare systems, frequency of natural disasters and levels of violent crime and terrorist threat. Switzerland received an impressive score of 93.4 out of 100. This indicates that travellers can be assured of the country’s amazing score for transport risks, which is 98 out of 100. Four criteria were taken into consideration which is the annual number of tourists injured or killed on roads and also the prevalence of airlines on the European Commission’s blacklist.
