While the beautiful ceremony and emotional video caught everyone’s attention, another detail stands out: the stunning venue. The couple chose the historic Blairquhan Castle in Scotland, an estate with centuries of history and fairytale-like surroundings, to mark the occasion.
Imagine exchanging vows inside a centuries-old castle, surrounded by sweeping green landscapes, dramatic architecture and beautifully landscaped gardens. That’s the setting Blairquhan Castle offers.
The castle sits within a sprawling 200-acre private estate in the heart of the Ayrshire countryside. Renowned Scottish architect William Burn designed the present-day castle in the early 19th century, with construction completed in 1824. Its striking Gothic, castellated design features dramatic towers, turrets and intricate stonework.
Interestingly, the history of the estate stretches much further back. The original Blairquhan tower house dates to 1346, giving the property more than seven centuries of history.
From Grand Rooms To Sweeping Views
Inside, Blairquhan Castle is just as striking. The property has beautifully restored reception spaces with period details, high ceilings and large sash windows.
One of its standout spaces is the Saloon, a dramatic central atrium with a 60-foot-high ceiling and four huge sash windows that flood the room with natural light. It can also be used for wedding ceremonies and receptions.
Then there is the Large Drawing Room, featuring damask-covered walls, chandeliers, period artwork, a marble fireplace and floor-to-ceiling sash windows overlooking the countryside and flower gardens. The castle also has a smaller drawing room and a traditional library, adding to its old-world charm.
Also, did you know that the castle’s interiors and grounds were used as a substitute location for Balmoral Castle in the Oscar-winning 2006 film The Queen, starring Helen Mirren? The estate has also hosted other film, television and commercial productions.

A Castle That Looks Straight Out Of A Fairytale!
The beauty of Blairquhan doesn’t end indoors. Its expansive estate includes an arboretum, forest walking trails, an 18th-century lime tree avenue, a garden pond and a historic walled garden.
The walled garden was designed around 1816 and features a distinctive three-walled structure created to provide shelter and warmth for plants. There’s also a manicured flower garden beside the castle, complete with seasonal flowers, a fountain, fishpond and sundial.
The castle has 15 bedrooms, each combining period features and antique furnishings with modern comforts. The rooms offer views of the surrounding Ayrshire countryside, making the experience feel more like staying in a historic Scottish estate than a conventional hotel.
There are also eight holiday cottages across the estate, which can provide additional accommodation for larger celebrations.
