Government Reduces Booster Dose Gap To 3 Months For Those Travelling Abroad

People who wish to travel abroad can shorten the nine-month gap between the second and booster dose of the covid-19 vaccine, according to the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunization (NTAGI). An expert panel recommended individuals take the booster dose whenever the country they’re visiting requires it. An official announcement has yet to be made by the Union health ministry about the recommendation.

People Going Abroad For Work

The decision of shortening the gap of nine months between the second dose and the booster dose was taken by NTAGI after considering people who have to travel outside India for work or business matters.

NTAGI Scheduled To Meet

The data for immunization of children between 5-12 years of age for covid-19 and deciding protocols for the vaccine are the reasons for which NTAGI is scheduled to meet this week. The previous meetings could not come up with any conclusion as the NTAGI experts were not sure about the paediatric data available. In other countries children above the age of 2 have already been vaccinated. They have to yet analyse the effect it might have on children even after green signals from the drug regulator.

The drug regulator has approved Cadila’s ZyCoV-D for children above 12 years of age, Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin for children aged 6-12 and Biological E.’s Corbevax for those aged 5-11.
