A group of hens at a farm in Malappuram are laying eggs with green yolks, leaving everyone including scientists perplexed. AK Shihabudheen, the farm’s owner, posted a few pictures and videos of the green yolk eggs on Facebook. Since then, the photos have created an uproar on the Internet.
According to TNIE, people from different parts of India and even abroad began contacting Shihabudheen to know more about the phenomenon. And now, scientists from the Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (KVASU) have launched a study on these miracle eggs and hens.

Story Behind The Green Yolk Eggs In Kerala’s Farm
So the story goes as follows. Reportedly, around 9 months ago, Shihabudheen found that an egg laid by one of his hens had a green yolk. Wondering if it would be safe to consume or not, he and his family decided not to eat it. Instead, they hatched some of the eggs laid by the hen. And to their surprise, the new hens also started laying eggs with green yolks!
“When we found that we could hatch chickens from these eggs, we began consuming the green eggs. The news of this egg phenomenon spread after I shared some pictures on social media a couple of weeks ago,” he told TNIE.

Now the biggest question arises. How does it taste? According to Shihabudheen, the green yolk eggs taste exactly like the normal ones. Reportedly, many people have approached Shihabudheen for the green eggs. But, currently, he’s planning to hatch more such hens and eggs for sales. But, according to him, the eggs will be sold only after the scientists of KVASU complete their study on the phenomenon.

What Do Scientists Have To Say About The Green Eggs?
According to Harikrishnan S, Assistant Professor at KVASU University, some special feed consumed by the hens might be the reason behind them laying eggs with green yolks. However, according to Shihabudheen, he did not feed the hens with anything special.
As per TNIE, the scientists are now planning to keep the hens under observation at the university. They will be feeding the hens with normal chicken feed, which will be developed at the university. If after 3 weeks, the hens lay white eggs, the scientists will conclude that the hens were eating something special at the farm. However, if the hens continue to lay green yolked eggs, further studies will have to be carried out.
While this strange phenomenon has definitely left us all of us confused, we hope the researchers are able to determine yeh andey ke fundey!
