India is only gearing up for the winter season. And while we’re all tucked up in our warm blankets and jackets, Himachal Pradesh needs something much warmer. Winter destinations like Manali and Kufri in Himachal Pradesh received its first snowfall of the year on November 16. And now, tourists in Shimla celebrated the festive season with the season’s first snowfall in the region on December 27. The state also recently became the most preferred tourists destination for Indians, who prefer hills over beaches. Read on to know more.
Shimla, Manali & Kufri In Himachal Pradesh Witnesses First Snowfall Of Season
Tourists and locals in Manali and Kufri are celebrating the first snowfall of the season. Kufri, the popular hill station near Shimla, witnessed its first snowfall in the higher mountains of the Shivalik ranges and Dhauladhar. According to Outlook India, Mohit Chawla, Superintendent of Police Shimla, stated that Kufri already recorded over 2cms of snow. Moreover, three roads namely Kharapatthar, Khirki and Narkanda are blocked due to heavy snowfall. But this didn’t restrict traffic on the Shimla-Kufri road. On December 27, Shimla witnessed the first snowfall of the winter season. Tourists who visited the hill station for Christmas and New Year celebrations had a gala time in the winter wonderland.

Farmers & Hoteliers Relieved With The Snowfall; Will Attract Tourists To The State
Apart from this, high altitude areas like Lahaul, Spiti, Chamba, Mandi, Kullu and Kinnaur also experienced gorgeous snowfall. The hills overlooking Manali were covered in moderate spells of snow. The chilly winds, pitter-patter raindrops and beautiful snowfall brought lots of happiness for the farmers of Himachal Pradesh. The prolonged dry spell had affected their rabi crops like cabbage, maize and cauliflower. The further delay in rains could have made matters worse.

Hoteliers in Himachal Pradesh are also gearing up to house tourists. They hope this snowfall will attract more tourists to the state and can revive their industry, affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The police also expect tourists to visit Kufri due to the snowfall. Police have started deploying manpower to in the area as they expect tourists.
