How I Bond With My Daughter On A Busy Working Day

As the Chief Travel Officer of Curly Tales, my typical workday would involve loads of travelling and endless meetings. But now as I settle into working from home being the new ‘normal’, things have definitely changed. Just like you, this ‘working remotely’ thing made life challenging for me too. I have been struggling to juggle between my work and spending quality time with my daughter Ziana. Now, I not only have to look at my Google Calendar but also my daughter’s online class routine. However, I still manage to steal two precious moments with my daughter and here’s how I do it.

Structuring My Day

I have always tried to stick to a routine even during the lockdown. For me, that means getting out of bed at a regular time and doing my usual morning routine — exercise, breakfast and buying vegetables. I try to give some structure to my day instead of just taking every minute as it comes. I just settle on a general plan of attack for the day before I have to start working that morning. This practice leaves me with more time in the evening to spend with my family.

Being A Strategic Mom

Listen here: I’m that annoying mom who refused to let her baby even look at a TV screen. But I like to share my work desk with my daughter. Not to spy on her but to be more accessible to her. During the lockdown, my daughter’s study table turned into a workstation for me. This is the place where I coordinate with my team while monitoring my daughter’s online classes—hence being strategic!

Making Mealtime Memories

No one planned for this particular staycation for sure, but this forced family time is here whether we wanted it or not. I try to make the most of it. At the very least, I sit down and have meals with my daughter most days. I also whip up my daughter’s favourite YiPPee! noodles on some afternoons when I’d otherwise be tapping away on my keyboard. We savour YiPPee! together and indulge in happy conversations and hearty laughs.

Board Games With My Competitive Pal

My daughter enjoys board games and I, thankfully, do not have to run to the craft shop to get her the games she likes. YiPPee! noodles come with free board games that Ziana simply loves. Besides, I think that no one is too old for a classic board game. I truly enjoy my ludo and scrabble games with my competitive pal Ziana. And while new games like What Do You Meme are certainly fun, there’s something so sweet and nostalgic about the classic old board games. Don’t you think so?

And finally, when I have some time in the evening, I call up my mother and talk to her. This is that one thing which has been constant over the years and no travel or pandemic could change it.
