Years ago, they were an iconic sight on the Hyderabad roads with their elegant looks and unique design. For many newcomers and locals, climbing to the upper deck was a thrill to feel the breeze as you experience the city from a different perspective. Hyderabad’s iconic double-decker buses can speak several stories about the city and its people. Unfortunately, they were discontinued but, 2021 is a year of surprises after all, and these icons are making their comeback soon!

Hyderbad To Double The Fun With Double Decker Buses

Hyderabad will be re-introducing the double-decker buses. While the city had moved away from traditional modes of transport like cycle-rickshaws, now with popular demands, double-decker buses definitely make their much-awaited comeback. According to India TV, this amazing initiative started with the Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development KT Rama Rao when he recalled his childhood days when he used the double-decker bus to go to school. “I have many fond memories of riding the double-decker bus on my way to St George’s Grammar School at Abids,” tweeted Rama Rao, who is the son of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.

2021 to Be The Year For Double Decker Buses To Make Comeback

One person responded by asking him to restart or re-introduce the double-decker buses.”Not sure why there taken off the roads,” the Minister tweeted and then requested the Puvvada Ajay, the Transport Minister, to check whether they can re-introduce them again. The process moved further when the Transport Minister spoke to the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC), which set up a committee to check the feasibility of operating double-decker buses. This was necessary as the city landscape has undergone a sea change since these buses were taken off the roads. In Ahmedabad, there’s a restaurant that let’s you dine on a moving double decker bus.

Upon careful consideration, it was decided that they would introduce the double-decker buses. Several people are also sharing their excitement about these buses. Speaking to The News Minute, Ismail Shareef, a businessman, said, “It will be great to have them back on roads after such a long time. I have wonderful memories of travelling in double-deckers during childhood.” For the generation who have grown up with only seeing these buses in photographs, the government’s exciting move will surely give them a thrill.
