Taking to the microblogging site, Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer Parveen Kaswan shared pictures of the animal and also some fascinating information about it.

Wildlife officials recently discovered something grand and never seen before in India. In the higher altitudes of North Sikkim, the department officials discovered a rare Tibetan Brown Bear. Finding it has been a joint effort of a team of experts from the Sikkim Forest Department and World Wildlife Fun-India. Spotted in one of India’s Northeastern states, this is known to be the first-ever rare Tibetan Brown Bear documented in India.

The rare animal discovered in the Mangan district of Sikkim marks the addition of another sub-species to the bear population and rich Indian biodiversity. India is home to vast places that are still untouched and have not been visited by many. The IFS officer shared how so much of the nation is yet to be explored.

Scientifically known as Ursus arctos pruinosus, it was back in December 2023 when the picture of the rare Tibetan Brown Bear was captured in the higher reaches of North Sikkim. The Sikkim Forest Department and WWF-India installed camera traps that clicked the viral pictures of the rare animal.
