We Indians love to travel and explore new destinations and the recent surge in the number of travel enthusiasts planning trips and going on vacations speaks for itself. 2022 has seen a spectacular rise in holidays taken by Indian travellers and the best part is that most tourists are more inclined towards exploring India and its alluring beauty and not any other foreign destinations.

The world of travelling is surely noticing a major transition and the spectrum is changing with time. The tourism industry is booming and travellers are also spending money on enjoying extraordinary travel experiences. The tourist footfall in domestic destinations is witnessing a huge spike and this is surely a major boost for the tourism industry. Travel enthusiasts are enthusiastic about domestic trips more than crossing borders and arriving in a new country.

Booking.com and McKinsey recently revealed that Indians went on around 1.7 leisure holidays back in the year 2022. Out of this humongous number, only 1 per cent of them visited overseas. This shows how travellers’ wanderlust and urge to tour India is seeing a rise. This is all set to be much more influential and significant in the tourism sector. An October report showed an estimation of Indians going on about  5 billion leisure holidays by the year 2030.

What we found the most fascinating is that 99 per cent of these explorers are going to travel to places in India itself, according to a report by CNBC. Another remarkable record that India is about to achieve by 2030 is becoming the fourth-largest spender while discovering the world. An impactful reason behind the uptick is the rise in the population in the middle-income category. People are going to start earning a lot more than now which is giving them the opportunity to splurge on vacations and leisure trips. India is also home to many youngsters who are eager to take such holidays.

The popular and populous cities of India have always been a major attraction for tourists from different parts of the nation. But now, travellers are getting eager to book vacations in small towns, offbeat places, and tier 2 and 3 cities as well. There is a reason why internationally reputed hospitality brands wish to expand in tier 2 cities. Some touristy places that are attracting these hotel chains are Bilaspur, Bodhgaya, Dharamshala, Jodhpur, Kodagu, and Raipur.

Some factors that are influencing people to take vacations are smooth and enhanced transportation facilities. Airlines are coming up with better air connectivity routes and other modes are evolving as well. The upcoming wave of travel enthusiasts flocking to towns surely is a major shift in the travel dynamics.
