Now you won’t have to dial many numbers for different emergencies, India’s finally got a single emergency number – 112. 

What Is It?

Now you can call on 112 in India and get immediate assistance related to fire, health, women’s safety, police or protection. The service has been rolled out in 16 states and Union territories in India and will be starting in other states by next year. The 16 states and Union Territories are Andhra Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Puducherry, Lakshadweep, Andaman, Dadar and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu, Jammu and Kashmir. What Do We Know?

The service will be provided according to the distress sign. According to the type of emergency, the response will be improvised. The emergency services are available through phone, app and the website. On the site, they have an emergency report center that handles emergency emails. 

For women’s safety, the 112 app also has a SHOUT feature that lets you enlist a few emergency contacts. Once you push the SHOUT feature, a notification is sent to your contacts and volunteers from the app for assistance.
