India To Offer COVID-19 Insurance Cover To Foreign Tourists To Boost Tourism

Whether you’d have thought of traveller insurance earlier or not, the latest travel trend or necessity is undoubtedly coronavirus insurance packages. Singapore started offering COVID-19 insurance coverage for tourists to boost tourism.  And now, the Indian tourism ministry might also follow suit. In order to boost tourism, India might offer attractively priced coronavirus insurances covers to foreign tourists. Read on to know more.

Foreign Tourists Visiting India Might Get COVID-19 Insurance Packages In The Future

Foreign tourists arriving in India might an attractively priced coronavirus insurance coverage. The tourism ministry plans to revive tourism in the country through COVID-19 insurance coverages.  Rupinder Brar, tourism ministry’s additional director general stated to Business Standard that the department is analysing Singapore’s insurance policies. She further added that the tourism ministry is discussing COVID-19 insurance covers with insurance companies and the finance ministry.

Tourism Ministry Of India Evaluates COVID Insurance Policies Of Other Countries

Business Standard reports that India welcomed over 10.9 million foreign tourists in 2019. But unfortunately, just like the rest of the world, tourism came to a standstill in March when the government implemented the lockdown and suspended tourist visas. Until the Indian government welcomes international tourists again, the tourism ministry shall work on measures for the safety of foreign tourists. In order to generate confidence and create a safe environment, the tourism ministry might offer COVID-19 insurance packages to foreign tourists in the future.

Apart from countries like Singapore and Jamaica offering COVID insurance covers to foreign tourists, airlines around the world are also resorting to the same. Virgin Atlantic Airlines,  offers free COVID-19 insurance worth ₹4.8 crores to encourage people to fly again. Apart from this British airlines, SpiceJet and Emirates also market Covid-19 insurance packages to enhance the safety of passengers. So, we’d have to wait a little longer to witness when and how India extends COVID-19 insurance packages to foreign tourists.
