“Magar Interest Toh Le Sakte…” Huma Qureshi’s Advice To Her Brother Is The Best One You Will Hear Today

“Main aaj ka mard hoon.” The declaration arrived midway through a conversation at Mumbai’s Bade Miyan, where Huma Qureshi and Saqib Saleem were sharing food, memories, and the sort of sibling banter that can turn into an argument without warning. Kamiya Jani barely had to nudge them. Once the topic of their relationship came up, the brother-sister duo did the rest.

During an episode of Sunday Brunch, Saqib Saleem explained that he considers himself a fairly liberal brother. Huma’s life is her business, he said, and he makes a conscious effort not to interfere. It’s the sort of thing that sounds impressive when you say it out loud.

Huma Qureshi wasn’t buying it, though. Without missing a beat, she pointed out that there is a difference between staying out of someone’s life and showing absolutely no curiosity about it. That’s when she delivered the line that instantly changed the direction of the conversation: “Intrude mat karo… magar interest toh le sakte ho.”

Suddenly, it became a debate every family has had at some point. How much involvement is too much involvement? When does concern become interference? And can someone really claim to care while remaining completely detached?

Huma Qureshi Reveals Why They Weren’t Close Growing Up

Saqib Saleem, naturally, doubled down. Huma, naturally, refused to let him get away with it. The funniest part was that neither seemed particularly interested in winning. They were enjoying the argument far too much.

A little later, the conversation drifted towards childhood. According to Huma Qureshi, they weren’t especially close growing up. They fought. A lot! They annoyed each other and teased each other too much. They behaved exactly the way most brothers and sisters do when they’re forced to share a house for years.

Living away from home changed things. Somewhere between growing up and moving cities, they stopped seeing each other as the annoying kid occupying the next room and started seeing each other as people.

Watching the two go back and forth, it became clear that affection isn’t always expressed through emotional speeches; sometimes it looks like relentless teasing. Huma Qureshi and Saqib Saleem may not agree on where that line between interest and intrusion exists. But judging by this conversation, they’ll probably spend the next few decades happily arguing about it.
