If you’ve been on the internet lately, you’ll know that jamun is having a serious moment. From desserts and cocktails to artisanal drinks, the humble summer fruit seems to be popping up everywhere. And now, it’s made its way into the world of craft spirits. Meet Baagh Blue, a jamun-inspired craft gin infused offering bold flavours and a naturally striking hue.
India Now Has A Jamun Craft Gin, Infused With Hibiscus & Butterfly Pea
Baagh Blue is the latest offering from Chhota Hazri Spirits, giving its award-winning Baagh Indian Craft Gin a distinctly Indian twist. Inspired by the flavours of the monsoon, the new expression is infused with jamun, hibiscus, and butterfly pea flower, creating a vibrant spirit with a naturally eye-catching hue.
It starts with a classic gin base of Himalayan juniper, coriander, star anise, and whole pepper, before adding a distinctly Indian twist with jamun, hibiscus, bergamot, and butterfly pea flower.
The jamun brings a tangy, fruity depth and gives the gin its rich indigo colour, while the floral and citrus botanicals balance it with a light, refreshing finish. The result is a vibrant craft gin that bottles the flavours of an Indian summer in every sip.
One of the most striking features of the gin is its natural colour-changing effect. It transforms from a deep indigo to a soft lilac when tonic or citrus is added, thanks to the butterfly pea flower used in its botanical blend. With no artificial colours involved, every pour offers a little bit of theatre, turning a classic gin and tonic into a fun conversation starter.
