If you’re a foodie, you will definitely agree that India has some classics that are also famous internationally. TasteAtlas often releases lists of favourite food items, from fast food to desserts. Now, it has revealed its list of “Best Rice Pudding in the World”, a category that is almost everyone’s favourite. Interestingly, seven Indian items have made it to the list. Indian Dishes In The Best Rice Puddings In The World
India is home to some truly iconic dishes, and rice pudding is one of the most loved among them. In the TasteAtlas list, seven Indian rice-based desserts have made their mark globally. Among the top 10, Phirni ranks in 3rd place and is a much-loved dessert in North India for its creamy texture. Kheer comes in at 7th position, and what makes it special is that every region in India has its own version of it.
Moving ahead, Tamil Nadu’s Sakkarai Pongal takes the 15th spot. This South Indian dish is made with new rice, jaggery, and ghee, along with coconut, sesame seeds, raisins, milk, and cashews. It is also offered as a sacred dish during Makar Sankranti, making it both festive and comforting at the same time.
Next is Pongal at 19th position, a popular rice pudding enjoyed in Southern India and Sri Lanka. At the 24th spot is Gujarat’s Doodhpak, a simple yet delicious dessert made with rice, milk, and sugar. Then, Ven Pongal is at 26th position, another South Indian favourite, giving a perfect savoury taste.
