Now, many women are working to become financially independent, but this also comes with one major concern. When travelling to and from work, they often worry about their safety and just want to reach their destination safely. Understanding this, National Commission for Women (NCW) chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar said that women should feel safe while using app-based cab services. Scroll down to know more!

Women’s Safety Is Important In App-Based Cab Services

In an exclusive interview with PTI, Vijaya Rahatkar said that cab operators should follow the necessary guidelines to make women feel safe during their journeys. As per Hindustan Times report, last month, the NCW released the ‘Guidelines for Safety of Women Passengers Using App-Based and Digital Transport Mobility Services’. These guidelines highlight improving women’s safety before, during and after their cab journeys.

What Are Suggested Cab Safety Measures?

  • Driver background checks and police verification are mandatory
  • Physical SOS button in all cabs
  • A dedicated 24×7 Command and Control Centre to respond to SOS alerts within 60 seconds
  • Cab companies should have a proper system to handle complaints from women passengers

Rising Number Of Working Women In India

According to Vijaya Rahatkar, the number of working women in India has also increased. Women are multitasking, balancing their personal and professional lives. They are working in almost every field, including defence, science and technology. Many of them are expected to join the workforce after completing their higher education in the coming years.

Also, many of the women are working night shifts thanks to the four Labour Codes, which give women several workplace rights. As more women step out to work and rely on app-based cabs and other transport services, the NCW felt the need to introduce additional safety measures.
