Bengaluru Metro passengers can hope for some relief from congestion as three new six-coach trains are expected to begin operations on the Green Line by August 2026. Scroll down to know more about it.
Bengaluru Green Line Metro To Get 3 New Trains
The introduction comes more than a year after the first prototype entered the city, with interruptions caused by transport damage, detailed testing and numerous regulatory approvals. As per reports by Moneycontrol, the officials from the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) told the portal that the prototype train produced by China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRRC) suffered serious damage while being carried through Chennai port in January 2025.
Given that tests could only be carried out during non-operational hours on the active Green Line, testing proceeded slowly. The trains also had to undergo rotation trials, signalling checks, obtain 37 statutory permits, and receive rolling stock certification before entering passenger service. Officials also stated that the lingering issues with the Automatic Train Operation (ATO) system are being solved, after which a permit from the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) will be obtained. If the final clearance is granted on time, all three trainsets are expected to begin commercial operations by August.

More Trainsets Planned Across Green, Purple, Pink & Yellow Lines
As per reports, the BMRCL has decided to install all 21 CRRC-Titagarh trainsets solely on the 33-km Green Line, enabling maintenance to be coordinated at the Peenya depot. As the new trains are inducted, 17 existing BEML trainsets will slowly be shifted to the Purple Line, boosting capacity on Bengaluru Metro’s busiest corridor.
Currently, the combined 77-km Purple and Green network operates with only 57 trainsets, far short of the optimal quantity needed to maintain a three to four-minute interval during peak hours. Officials expect another eight to ten trainsets to be delivered by December 2026, with the full order targeted for completion by March 2027.
