What happens when Bengaluru’s most beloved bookstore faces a catastrophe? The city’s bookworms unite to extend a helping hand. At The Bookworm on Church Street, a rain that lasted less than an hour damaged over 4000 to 5000 books. What happened next is a Peak Bengaluru moment where a hailstorm and rain wouldn’t let a bookstore close its shutters. Rather, it led to the start of the city’s first ‘Wet Book Fair’.

A city’s beating heart, its resilience, is not tested when the sun shines, but when a thunderstorm strikes. The Bookworm on Church Street has been a haven for bibliophiles, spending hours scouring through the musty smell of comforting reads and browsing through second-hand books. So, when a hailstorm-struck Wednesday caused havoc to the store, Bengalureans did not let the spirit of their favourite bookstore die.
One of the worst hit properties of a heavy rainfall was The Bookworm, where 4000 to 5000 books worth ₹14 lakh were almost lost to the flood. A day later, book lovers in the city rushed to the bookstore to offer support. Many reached out to purchase the dampened reads at slightly discounted prices. Pictures of wet books kept out in the sun were shared online. That’s when people witnessed a heartwarming ‘peak Bengaluru moment’.
