₹167 Crore PWD Project To Fix Delhi’s Rohtak Road By April 2026, Ending Potholes And Traffic Chaos

If you’ve ever driven on the stretch of National Highway-10 (NH-10), also called Rohtak Road, you know it’s far from a smooth ride. Filled with potholes, waterlogging even on sunny days, and constant traffic jams, it has become a daily headache for thousands of commuters. But this road is finally getting a major upgrade! The Delhi Public Works Department (PWD) has launched a big project worth ₹167 crore to fix the drainage system and repair the road.

From Peeragarhi Chowk to Tikri Border, Delhi’s Rohtak Road covers about 13 kilometres. The drainage system is old and not enough to handle the water flow, causing waterlogging. Large potholes have developed, and vehicles often break down or get stuck. According to the Hindustan Times reports, the PWD is working on a three-phase plan focused mainly on fixing the drainage system. This includes building 9 kilometres of new drains on both sides of the road, designed to prevent waterlogging.

The drainage work is split into two main parts:

  • From Kirari Suleman drain near Nangloi railway station to Hirankudna drain (between metro pillar numbers 428 and 626).
  • From Tikri Border to Hirankudna drain (between metro pillars 753 and 626).

Both these new drain systems will connect to the Hirankudna drain, ensuring water flows smoothly away from the road. Alongside this, a separate ₹3.3 crore project will repair and strengthen the road surface between Nangloi Metro Station and Tikri Border.

Relief On The Way For West Delhi

PWD officials explain that patch repairs on potholes can’t last unless the drainage problem is solved first. Without proper drains, water will keep damaging the road. “This is a long-term solution. The drains are being made wider and deeper to match today’s needs. Once done, it will benefit residents of Nangloi, Mundka, Ghevra, and Tikri and make travel smoother on the Delhi-Haryana route, ” a PWD official shared with Hindustan Times.

Earlier this year, the Delhi government handed over the 13.23-km stretch of Rohtak Road to NHAI to turn it into an expressway. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that other big roads like Ashram to Badarpur and MG Road were also given to NHAI so that one agency can handle drainage, lane work, and repairs more smoothly and quickly.

Once finished, the upgraded drainage and strengthened road will mean safer, smoother journeys and fewer traffic jams.
