Durga Puja celebrations are in full swing in India. People are dressing up to visit pandals and temples to offer prayers and are also visiting food spots to eat authentic Bengali food. But for some people, the celebrations are about art and creativity. Sudarsan Pattnaik, a popular sand artist from Odisha who is known for creating massive, beautiful sand sculptures on the shores of Puri Beach, recently created a stunning Maa Durga artwork.

Instead of just using sand, the artist turned to fresh produce this year, using 22 types of vegetables, including carrots, cucumbers, okra and more, along with 10 types of fruits, such as oranges, apples and dragonfruit. He uploaded a video of the artwork on his official X account and wrote, “May Maa Durga bless everyone with strength, happiness, peace, and prosperity.”

And honestly, the artwork not only looks colourful but is also breathtaking. People at the beach could also be seen taking videos and photos of the artwork, and we are not surprised that it is now going viral on social media.

Deeper Meaning Behind The Artwork

We think that this artwork also has a deeper meaning. Maa Durga is often considered the ultimate mother and the source of life and nature. By using fresh fruits and vegetables, the artist is thanking the goddess and nature for feeding and providing for all living beings.

Durga Puja celebrations in India are worth experiencing. The festival honours Maa Durga for her victory over the demon Mahishasura. People celebrate it in India by setting up grand pandals, hosting pujas, organising cultural events and enjoying authentic Bengali food.
