Your college life is never just about lectures, assignments, exams, or extracurricular activities. It is also shaped by the hangout spots and eateries where you spent countless hours, sometimes even while skipping a lecture or two. For students of Mithibai, UPG, and NMIMS colleges, that place was the iconic Mithibai Khau Galli. However, after nearly 50 years, the famous food stall hub has now been completely demolished, marking the end of an era.
Mumbai’s Iconic Mithibai Khau Galli Is Completely Shut Down
According to Hindustan Times, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) demolished the last 10 stalls of Mithibai Khau Galli last week. The culinary landmark, named after its proximity to Mithibai College, was located on Gulmohar Road in Vile Parle.
From Jini Dosa and sandwiches at Anand Stall to delicious vada pavs at Dhiraj Stall, the lane was always buzzing with students and office-goers waiting for their snacks in the middle of a hectic day. For many, the area holds a special place in their memories, as it was never just about the food, but also the vibrant atmosphere and the little moments shared there.
Back in March, Anand Stall, which had been around for nearly four decades, was demolished. According to reports, food vendors at Mithibai Khau Galli were first served eviction notices by the BMC on November 14, 2025. They were instructed to dismantle their stalls within seven days or face demolition.

Why Was This Step Taken?
However, the vendors moved to court seeking exemption from the eviction notices, but the court upheld the demolition order. The demolitions began on March 6 and concluded on May 6, with the site being cleared of debris last week, HT reported.
The stalls were not removed due to encroachment, but to make way for the upcoming Mumbai Metro Line 2B station. The corridor will connect D N Nagar in Andheri to Mandale in Mankhurd. Earlier, a joint survey conducted by the BMC and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority found that the stalls fell within the alignment of the new Metro station, necessitating their removal.
