How To Properly Pack A Lunch Box? FSSAI Shares 4 Simple Tips

We all put so much effort into cooking food and packing it in lunch boxes, whether it is for the office or for our kids. But have you ever wondered that there is also a right way to pack a lunch box to ensure the packed food stays healthy, hygienic and fresh? FSSAI recently shared four simple tips to help with that.

Importance Of Properly Packed Lunch Boxes

A packed lunch is a meal prepared at home and placed in a tiffin or lunch box. We usually pack it for the office, for kids, or even to enjoy during a trip or picnic, as it is a convenient way to enjoy a homemade meal on the go. But to ensure that the food inside remains hygienic, FSSAI has now shared four simple tips on their official X account that you can follow. They wrote, “We put so much effort into cooking the perfect meal, but how much thought do we give to packing it?”

We have to agree that we put so much effort into cooking the perfect meal and then just put the food in the box without giving it another thought. This is where we make a mistake. Cooking food properly is important, but packing it correctly in the lunch box also plays a major role in keeping it fresh and tasty.

4 Simple Tips By FSSAI

Without further ado, let’s talk about the four simple tips:

  1. Wash, clean and dry lunch boxes before use: This helps prevent the growth of harmful bacteria and unpleasant odours.
  2. Use food-grade containers like steel, glass or food-grade plastic: Using food-grade lunch boxes is essential to prevent harmful chemicals from getting into your meals.
  3. Ensure tight-fitting lids: This helps prevent leakage and spilling of food into your bags.
  4. Cool food before packing to avoid spoilage: This is one of the most important tips, as many of us often put hot food directly into the lunch box. Letting food cool is crucial for preventing rapid bacterial growth and maintaining food quality.
