According to The Economic Times, Varanasi is all set to introduce India’s first public transport ropeway, which will connect Varanasi Cantt Railway Station to Godowlia Chowk. With narrow lanes in the city, the journey can take around 45 minutes by road. But this new project is quicker and is expected to cover the same stretch in just 15-16 minutes.
And yes, this ropeway project is going to benefit both locals and tourists alike, as Varanasi, also known as Kashi, sees a huge influx of tourists every day. The ropeway is nearing its launch later this year, but a content creator, Mehul Malviya (@avimuktkashii_), recently shared a glimpse of his experience on Instagram.
He took his followers on a virtual journey on this ropeway in Varanasi. The video showed the cable car, which looks clean and has space for multiple passengers. The design of the cabins is also inspired by the Kashi Vishwanath Temple and Varanasi’s holy ghats.
