In 2025, for people in Mumbai, travel is all about meaningful experiences and not just ticking off a destination on a bucket list! According to Pickyourtrail’s latest data, Mumbaikars are now travelling for love, luxury, and life’s big moments. For couples in the city, the Maldives emerged as a top favourite with nearly four in ten outbound bookings (39%) heading straight to Malé! Scroll on to know more about this.

Maldives Emerge As The Ultimate Escape For Mumbaikars

Pickyourtrail data insights reveal that for Mumbaikars, travel in 2025 is less about places and more about celebrating life with the people who matter. Interestingly, nearly 31% of travellers prefer a family vacation, with only 2% deciding to go solo this year.

For couples in the city, occasions like honeymoons take the lead in vacation planning, with nearly 31% planning their trips around them. Leisure holidays (19%), anniversaries (4.4%), and birthdays (1.6%) also add to the demand. The data shows that the city’s travel story is less about places and more about celebrating life and occasions. Milestone getaways dominate bookings with 70% of Mumbaikars choosing to travel with partners, and the Maldives emerged as a top favourite.

Other Destinations That Caught Attention

Beyond the Maldives, Mumbaikars are also choosing other beach destinations like Bali and Thailand. At 14%, Bali’s temples, rice terraces, surf beaches, and nightlife are attracting a lot of tourists, with both families and couples choosing it as their next destination.

Thailand comes close with 10%, and is a classic crowd-pleaser. From Bangkok’s street food to Phuket’s beaches and Chiang Mai’s trails, people have a lot to explore here. At 6%, Dubai is perfect for a short, high-energy break, with shopping, desert safaris, and skyline drama packed into a long weekend.

What is to be noted is that Mumbaikars don’t mind paying for these premium trips! As per the report, a Maldives holiday now averages ₹2.25 lakh, which nearly matches Dubai at about ₹2.3 lakh. Meanwhile, a Thailand trip costs ₹2 lakh, and one to Bali can easily cost ₹1.8 lakh. People in the city are choosing curated, high-value journeys where indulgence is part of the plan!
