PM Narendra Modi recently took to his X account to share that he prayed at the Matua Thakur Bari, which houses the shrines of its founders, Sri Sri Harichand Thakur Ji and Sri Sri Guruchand Thakur Ji. His visit to the temple has made many people curious about it. The Matua Thakur Bari is the main temple of the Matua Mahasangha, a socio-religious movement.

The movement was founded in the 19th century by Sri Sri Harichand Thakur and focuses on the upliftment of the Namasudra community. According to The Tribune, the temple serves as the main headquarters of the Matua community. Plus, this temple in north 24 parganas, is also central to the annual Baruni Mela, a major festival among the Matua community, celebrating the birth anniversary of Sri Sri Harichand Thakur.

He Also Visited The Thanthania Kalibari Temple In Kolkata 


Apart from visiting this temple, PM Modi also offered prayers at the Thanthania Kalibari in Kolkata. It is an ancient temple that has a close connection with Bengali culture. It is one of the oldest temples in Kolkata, where Maa Kali is worshipped as ‘Maa Siddheshwari’. PM Modi also highlighted that the temple has a strong association with Sri Ramakrishna, who used to pray here often.

According to News18, the Thanthania Kalibari temple was established in 1703. It is known for its unique tradition of offering non-vegetarian prasad. The shrine is over 300 years old, and the idol is believed to be even older. It remains open all days of the week, and according to Wikipedia, all rituals are followed as per tantric traditions here.
