What Strangers See vs What Shefali Shah Really Felt On Her Once-In-A-Lifetime Norway Trip

We all imagine our once-in-a-lifetime trip to be perfect. Shefali Shah felt the same about her trip to Norway. But when the moment finally arrived, everything became overwhelming with the family around. What strangers saw was a happy, excited family on vacation; in reality, it was quite the opposite for her. This is what Shefali shared about how she truly felt.

Shefali had dreamed of this Norway trip since she was a child. She grew up looking at colourful pictures of beautiful places and promised herself that one day she would go. When the moment finally arrived, the excitement was real. It felt like a once-in-a-lifetime chance — a trip she may not take again.

But just before the happiest moments, stress somehow finds a way in. Shefali felt it too. Packing turned chaotic, the baggage limits made her anxious, vegetarian food became a worry, and the itinerary even missed an activity she was excited about. All of this led to small arguments where everyone snapped a little — including her.

Then came the delay in leaving home, followed by frustration because no one seemed to understand time. And, as if on cue, a traffic jam at midnight added to the panic of maybe missing the flight. At the airport, long lines drained more joy. Even the window seat she had paid for wasn’t given. And beneath all this, she kept thinking about the pups she had left behind.

Here’s What Strangers See

Continuing further, Shefali also mentioned the difference between strangers and the reality of a perfect family trip. To strangers at the airport, the picture looked perfect: a cheerful family who are laughing, excited, and taking photos, and one woman quietly standing on the side. That woman, Shefali, looked distant and lost in thought. She hid behind her book and walked around without reason, feeling like an outsider in her own dream.

But she was also the same woman who once took a solo trip. Not because she wanted to, but because she had no choice. Back then, she saw herself as someone trying hard to find happiness alone.

At last, she wrote, “From being Mother India to being Simran, who caught a lifeline dangling from a train, to today—going on a much-anticipated and coveted ‘Hum Saath Saath Hain’ trip with ‘Shah and sons’ to see ‘Tare Zameen Par’.”
