Indian Railways Plans Common Design For Upcoming Bullet Train Corridors
For the upcoming bullet train corridors, the Ministry of Railways is planning a standardised design framework. The new corridors include Mumbai-Pune, Pune-Hyderabad, Hyderabad-Bengaluru, Hyderabad-Chennai, Chennai-Bengaluru, Delhi-Varanasi and Varanasi-Patna-Siliguri.
As per News18, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced in the Rajya Sabha that NHSRCL has already started preparing common designs and technical standards for all future bullet train corridors under the Bharat High Speed Rail Programme. Instead of creating a new design for every bullet train route, the government plans to use one standard design. It will cover bridges, tunnels, stations and viaducts. With this approach, Indian Railways aims to maintain quality, improve safety, reduce costs and speed up construction.

Which Technology Is Used In The Bullet Train Project?
The current bullet train project between Mumbai and Ahmedabad is being built using Japanese Shinkansen technology and operational systems. News18 reported that the Ahmedabad-Mumbai bullet train project uses Shinkansen-based systems for electrification, tracks and operations. Interestingly, it will also introduce J-Slab ballastless track technology in India for the first time.
Moreover, the trains are expected to run at a speed of 320 kmph, with a design speed of 350 kmph. The government is also developing an India-made control system that can safely operate bullet trains at speeds of up to 350 kmph.
