Air travel is expensive compared to other modes of transport, and when we think of flying, we often consider IndiGo first. One of the major reasons is that it is budget-friendly compared to most other airlines. But looks like even this airline’s ticket prices are about to increase. Scroll down to know why!
IndiGo Is Planning To Increase Flight Prices
In a recent update, IndiGo’s CEO Willie Walsh warned flyers about rising ticket prices. As per Outlook report, this comes after the airline’s another quarterly loss. IndiGo lost ₹1,879.1 crore between July and September 2026. It was 27.2% lower than the ₹2,582.1 crore the airline lost during the same period last year. However, this marks the airline’s third consecutive quarter of losses.
IndiGo earned 25.9% more from its operations than it did during the same quarter last year. The revenue went up to ₹23,363.8 crore. However, its fuel expenses also increased by 67.2%. With this, the number increased to ₹9,966.8 crore compared to ₹5,961.8 crore last year. The airline’s finances were affected by higher fuel prices, global tensions and the fall in the value of the rupee.
IndiGo’s loss increased from ₹238 crore in the April-June quarter to ₹1,879.1 crore in the July-September quarter. However, its foreign-exchange losses decreased to ₹1,333.2 crore from ₹2,892.1 crore last year. Removing these currency-related losses, IndiGo still faced a loss of ₹723.7 crore, compared to a profit of ₹103.9 crore during the same quarter last year.

No Change In Future Plans!
Sharing insights on these losses, Willie Walsh said that the airline is highly impacted by fuel prices and global tensions. So, to recover some of the loss, the airline may increase ticket prices. So far, the airline has managed to recover only around 60% of the additional money it spent on fuel.
However, even after these challenges, IndiGo is not planning to change any of its future plans. IndiGo will add Airbus A350 aircraft to its fleet in 2028 to expand its international flights. Speaking on this, Willie Walsh said the airline will not delay expansion because of the current increase in fuel prices.
