Indian Railways To Become Fully Electric By 2024 As Per Railway Minister

The future for vehicles is electricity. Electricity run cars and scooters is a step taken. But a giant leap would be electricity run public transportation. Recently, Commerce & Industry and Railways Minister, Piyush Goyal stated that Indian Railways will become fully electric by 2024. Diesel locomotives are slowly and gradually being shut. And by 2030, it’s expected that the Indian Railways will become a net-zero emission network. Now that’s a change we are waiting for.

What’s In It?

During the India-Brazil Business Forum, Piyush Goyal stated that by the year 2024 it’s expected that the entire Indian Railways will be run 100% on electricity. It will be the world’s first railway network to be run fully on electricity. Goyal further assured that they are very concious of the responsibility to the environment. So they are embarking on rapid electrification of the Indian rail network.

The India-Brazil Business Forum was organized during Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro’s visit to India from 26th to 27th January 2020. The Indian and Brazilian business leaders were addressed during this event by Bolsanaro and the other ministers. Piyush Goyal also added Indian is planning to develop the railway network into a net-zero emission network by 2030. According to him, there will be n emission from the railways and it will run on clean energy and clean power.

Addressing a possible collaboration on development between India and Brazil, the Union Minister stated that India would love to work together with Brazil on infrastructure development. He stated that India offers a market that is seeking to grow to a USD 5 trillion economy. It will be an economy full of young working people, vibrant and free society with the rule of law, strong judiciary and media, stable government policies and a business-friendly environment.

The minister said both countries have set up a target to take bilateral trade to $15 billion by 2022, from the current $8.3 billion. The minister also said that both countries have set up an objective to take up the bilateral trade to $15 billion from the present $8 billion. When it comes to business opportunities, he stressed on both countries looking at potential areas like startups, clean energy, infrastructure, tourism, agriculture and railways. Brazilian president’s visa-free travel for Indians was appreciated by Goyal and he stated that tourists and businessmen would benefit from this. Well, for now, it’s a matter of pride if India actually put its plans to action and becomes the world’s first fully-electric railway network by 2024.
