Skyscanner’s ‘Pitch Perfect Journeys’ report has now revealed how the love of cricket is shaping the travel choices of Indians as well. According to the report, 47% of Indians are ready to swap their sofas for seats at the stadium, both within the country and abroad. The ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) is further fueling this desire to travel and catch live matches in the stadium.
Cricket Fever Takes Flight In India
Skyscanner’s report shows that nearly half of Indians are ready to plan a trip to catch a cricket match live in the stadium. 98% of respondents to the survey for this report admitted to their love for the game. The report shows that cricket is not just a game, but a way of life in India!
More than 80% of Indians are looking forward to watching an IPL match live this season. And the matchday madness is just the beginning. Skyscanner’s data reveals that 50% of fans are choosing to extend their cricket trips by 3-4 days, turning it into a full-fledged getaway.
While cricket matches are the focus, the fans are also savouring local flavours, and checking off tourist landmarks and iconic sites in the cities they are visiting. In fact, 67% of survey respondents have already soaked in the excitement of being in the stadium, and 94% were eager to relive that thrilling atmosphere in the near future.
As cricket emerges as a major travel motivator, travellers are pairing their passion for the game with smart, practical planning. For 55% of fans, location and the stadium atmosphere are the top considerations, followed by the participating teams (51%). They also look forward to the possibility of combining the match with a holiday (42%).

Australia’s Top Travel Destinations For Indian Cricket Lovers
Indians are especially eyeing destinations they want to check off their bucket list while travelling to watch a live cricket match. So, when it comes to witnessing international tournaments, Australia takes the top spot, with nearly 56% of Indians keen to visit the Land Down Under, followed by England (46%), New Zealand (40%), and the UAE (31%).
On the home turf, Mumbai leads the scoreboard. The city is drawing in 1 in 5 Indians for its electrifying stadium vibes, with 55% of Indians eager to experience the atmosphere at Wankhede Stadium. This is followed by Bangalore (18%), Chennai (13%), and Delhi (12%).
