After Indigo, SpiceJet To Charge Flyers ₹100 For Physical Check-In

We have seen a lot of changes in the aviation industry in recent months. While web-check-in is made mandatory, some airlines are also charging extra for seat selection. Like that was not enough IndiGo is now charging ₹100 extra for checking in at the airport. So, if you fail to connect to the internet and do the web-check in by some chance, you will have to pay an extra fee at the airport. Once you do the web check-in, you will be issued boarding pass by the airline. Apart from IndiGo, SpiceJet has also started charging flyers ₹100  per passenger for physical check-in.

SpiceJet Encourages Flyers To Opt For Web Check-In

India’s budget carrier, SpiceJet aims to provide flyers, a safe and contactless flying experience. So the airline has now started charging ₹100 service fee per passenger for physical check-in at airport counters. This is done in a bid to discourage passengers from physical check-in and rather encourage them to opt for web check-in. SpiceJet put out a tweet stating  “Web check-in is mandatory! Visit our website or app to check-in online and obtain your boarding pass for free, up to 60 minutes prior to your flight’s departure. And now, you may also check-in at the airport, for a facilitation fee of Rs 100 per passenger”.

Aviation Ministry Had Made Web Check-In Mandatory

In light of the pandemic, the aviation ministry had made it mandatory for passengers to do web check-in to reduce touchpoints at the airport. Once web check-in is done, the online boarding pass is issued by the airline to the passenger. IndiGo has decided to charge an extra fee to encourage passengers to web check-in. IndiGo Is Takinig Precautionary Measures To Reduce Touch Points

Since domestic flights resumed in May, only passengers with confirmed web check-in were allowed to enter an airport terminal initially. IndiGo said it was committed to taking all precautionary measures for a contactless and experience for its customers.
