Just like every year, the first Monday of May, celebrated fashion’s biggest night, the Met Gala 2023. “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” this year’s Costume Institute exhibition, honoured Karl Lagerfeld’s whole body of work and life. Accordingly, the dress code was “in honour of Karl.” While people were checking out the red carpet looks of all the celebrities invited, we thought of taking a look at the extravagant dinner’s theme and menu.
Met Gala 2023 Dinner
The Met Gala 2023 dinner was inspired by Karl Lagarfeld’s love for throwing dinner parties. The Vogue special events department and caterer Olivier Cheng took inspiration from Karl’s most famous soirée, Paloma Picasso’s wedding reception.
After their civil ceremony in 1978, Karl hosted a luncheon to celebrate Picasso and Rafael Lopez-Sanchez at his 18th-century apartment in Paris.
A chilled spring pea soup with baby vegetables, lemon crème fraîche, and truffle snow will be served to guests for dinner, and then they’ll have grilled King salmon with vegetable nage, asparagus, pickled strawberries, and radish on vintage china.
The menu, according to Cheng, was created to pay homage to the late fashion icon’s favourite cuisines and diverse palette. These recipes were developed employing some of his favourite foods, such as king salmon, while still remaining seasonal.

Drinks And Petit Fours
Karl Lagarfeld’s favourite drink, Diet Coke, will also be served along with wine on the drinks menu of Met Gala 2023. Diet Coke was Karl’s absolute go-to drink, and it is said that he would consume 10 of them every day.
As celebrities, artists, singers, and politicians leave the gala for the various after-parties, waiters will serve a variety of petit fours—exactly as Lagerfeld would have preferred.
French linen napkins, hand-painted candelabras that had been varnished, and bouquets of pink flowers, including Red Command and Coral Charm peonies, were used to embellish the tables at the Met Gala. Additionally, a set that is meant to resemble Lagerfeld’s personal library will be all around attendees. (As per Vogue)
