The erstwhile Mysore royal family has now ventured into the coffee business. They have recently launched three specialty coffee varieties under the brand name ‘Berunda Coffee’. From their names to their origin, here’s everything you need to know about these new brews.
Erstwhile Mysore Royal Family Launches Berunda Coffee
The House of Berunda has now unveiled Berunda Coffee, its premium Karnataka estate coffee brand. According to The Hindu, the three coffee varieties have been named after palace elephants and are called Drona, South Indian Filter, and Arjuna and Gajendra. You would like to know that all three coffee specialty varieties are AA-grade and chicory-free.
Reportedly, the coffee varieties are sourced from Chikmagalur, the BR Hills and Coorg. All the packs also come with the roast date stamped on them. Rajkumari Jayapalashri Anil, Founder, House of Berunda, shared with The Hindu that her mother used to talk to her about the smell of fresh coffee, and she grew up watching her father savour his morning cup with so much love. Coffee in their family was not simply a drink but a tradition that connected generations. This is why they decided to launch Berunda Coffee.

More Coffee Varieties To Be Added Soon
More coffee varieties will be added to the line-up soon. The team is also focusing on sustainability, from shade-grown sourcing to sun-dried processing. Not just that, but the founders are also planning to bring more women into the story at every level, be it at the estate, the roastery or even in leadership roles.
M. J. Dinesh, Chairman, Coffee Board, shared with The Hindu that Karnataka leads coffee production in the country and accounts for 70% of its total production. But the domestic consumption of coffee is still quite low at 70 grams per person a year. According to him, India’s coffee industry has tremendous scope to grow bigger and better.
