Kerala Becomes The Only State In India With A Dedicated Internet Service

After being the state with the highest education rate, Kerala now has another feather on its cap. Kerala has become the first state in India with a dedicated internet service. The internet has been declared one of the basic rights of the people of the state. Chief Minister of Kerala, Pinarayi Vijayan took to his Twitter handle and made the announcement of Kerala getting its own internet service. The Department of Telecommunications of the Government of India has given the ISP license to the Kerala Fiber Optic Network Ltd (KFON).

Internet Declared A Basic Human Right In Kerala

The government had launched the KFON project to make the internet accessible to everyone in the state. It also aims to offer free internet to the population of the Below Poverty Line and around 30,000 government offices. The project aims to remove the digital gap in Kerala by making the internet a basic human right. The US had declared the internet as the basic right of the people in 2016.
