Kerala: From Trivandrum’s First Floating Bridge To Focus On Beach Tourism; Tourism Min Shares Future Plans

Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram is now home to the seventh floating bridge in the state. Kerala Public Works and Tourism Minister Riyas noted that the opening of the district’s first floating bridge at Papanasam Beach will enhance the area’s tourist attractions. He mentioned that Kerala has a lot of potential for beach tourism, and it will be tapped in a wise manner.

Kerala To Focus On Beach Tourism

Kerala’s shoreline is perfect for aquatic activities. However, there aren’t many projects right now. Riyas claimed that if it is used wisely, it will significantly increase state revenue. The minister reported that numerous investors had expressed interest in investing in beach tourism during the first Tourism Investors’ Meet, which took place in the state capital last month.

He went on to say that more public-private partnerships for beach tourism initiatives are planned by the government. To be executed in 2024, a master plan has been developed to fully develop Varkala as a significant centre of pilgrimage and entertainment in the state.

More tourists will come to Kerala as a result of new initiatives like the floating bridge in Varkala. The beach is already home to numerous water sports activities, according to a release from Riyas.

Lifeguards, Safety Jackets And More

The Department of Tourism, in collaboration with the District Tourism Promotion Council, Kerala Adventure Tourism Promotion Society, and the Municipality of Varkala, has constructed the floating bridge.

The bridge in Kerala is three metres wide and one hundred metres long, with supports on either side. According to the release, there is a platform measuring 11 metres in length and 7 metres in width at the end of the bridge where guests may take in the view of the sea.

The bridge is supported by 700 kg of anchors and is made of 1,400 high-density floating polyethylene blocks. It also has lifeguards, safety boats, and life jackets, among other safety features.

One hundred or more people at a time can cross the floating bridge and ride the waves of the ocean. The hours of entry are 11am to 5pm.  (As per Hindustan Times)
