Kolkata is situated in Seismic Zone III, which indicates a moderate earthquake risk. The city occasionally experiences tremors. These are typically the result of seismic activity in nearby regions such as the Bay of Bengal, Nepal, or North-East India.

Rather than from faults directly beneath the city itself. This event follows another recent earthquake that struck Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi district on Sunday morning. That tremor, measuring 3.7 on the Richter scale, occurred at 8:42 AM.

Its epicentre is near Kiargi in the Sundernagar area at a depth of 7 kilometres. The Mandi district falls within seismic zone 5, classified as a high-damage risk zone. Despite the tremors being felt across parts of the district, officials reported no loss of life or property.
