Poila Baisakh was the happiest occasion for Kolkata folks as there were two reasons for celebration. First was Poila Baisakh, and the other was the inauguration of the newest auditorium of the city — Dhanadhanyo Auditorium. A proud moment for everyone in the city to house an architectural marvel! Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, inaugurated the conch shell-shaped Dhanadhanyo Auditorium in Kolkata.

CM Mamata Banerjee tweeted about the inauguration of the new auditorium with its images. The tweet stated that the inauguration of this auditorium is a proud moment for everyone. Furthermore, the auditorium is built with state-of-the-art facilities at a total cost of ₹440 crores. She also thanked the PWD officials for making this dream come true. The structure is truly a modern marvel and a symbol of progress.

Mamata Banerjee placed the project’s foundation stone and named it “Dhanadhanyo Auditorium.” At the inaugural event, she stated that the conch shell symbolises purity and auspiciousness. And it is very important for Indian culture. That is why the structure has a conch shell on the top.

Details Of The Facility

The auditorium is spread across 4.5 acres. It is 510 feet in length and 210 feet in width and has six floors. Moreover, there are two halls — the larger hall which can accommodate 2,000 people and the smaller hall to accommodate 540 people. In addition to this, the place has a street theatre facility with a capacity of hosting 300 people.

Street plays can be performed there by artists, and there is a dormitory on the premises as well. The theatre will also have amenities including banquet halls, a food park, and a sizable parking facility with space for 250 automobiles on the main floor. Other unique characteristics offered by the company Visionaire, according to their website are LED lighting, AV/LV systems, Solar systems, and more.

The construction of this auditorium was completed within 40 months. West Bengal Housing and Infrastructure Development Corporation (Hidco) is in charge of its maintenance — in fact, they have already issued a tender.
