Bengaluru’s Lalbagh Botanical Garden is back with its annual Mango Mela. This year you can expect 20 different varieties of mangoes at the fruity mela with over 70 robust stalls. Mango lovers can purchase fresh mangoes organically grown in Karnataka, a major mango-producing state. From date, and time to mango varieties, read on to know everything else about this.

Mango Mela Is Back At Lalbagh Botanical Garden In Bengaluru

Mango enthusiasts from across the city, this mela is bathed in shades of yellow and green as vendors sell different varieties of mangoes like Dasheri, Imam Pasand, Raspuri, Kesar, Alphonso, Totapuri, Badam and Mallika. It’s a 15-day festival held in Lalbagh Botanical Garden which started somewhere around May 24. A visitor, Ravi, told The Indian Express that mango prices aren’t cheap but there are many varieties to choose from.

Chandra Reddy, a farmer from Srinivasapura, Kolar stated to The Indian Express that farmers have two weeks to sell their mango produce. They want the government to grant them an extension as it would be tough for farmers to clock in profits in a short span of time. The farmers hope for better weather conditions next time. This time, climate change issues and low rainfall led to a low crop yield.

Fortunately, the mango quality has been up to the mark. And that’s one of the reasons the Mango Mela in Lalbagh is gaining a lot of visitors, especially mango enthusiasts and farmers are receiving appreciation. Several farmers have been selling mangoes at the Mango Mela in Lalbagh for over a decade. Residents and tourists soak in the atmosphere of the mela which is set amid the lush greenery of the garden amid the hustle-bustle of Bengaluru’s fast-paced life.

The Mango Mela kickstarted on May 24 and will go on till June 10. The best part? You can grab hold of the priced Kari-Ishad, a GI-tagged mango variety from Madhya Pradesh. Earlier selling for ₹200 per kg, it now sells for ₹300 per kg. The reason for the price hike is the GI tag.
