Lights, Camera, Action: Bollywood Returns To Kashmir After 32 Years; 150 Filmmakers Get Shooting Permit

Kashmir is one of the most picturesque places on Earth and it makes it for one of the most favourite locations that attracts the film industry. Kashmir was home to the Bollywood film industry until the 1980s before the uprising began. And after 30 long years, the Indian film industry is back to the valley.

More Than 150 Bollywood And Tollywood Filmmakers Are Licensed To Shoot In Jammu &Kashmir

The Jammu & Kashmir government has received more than 500 applications by filmmakers asking for permission to film in the valley. The government has issued more than 150 permits to date.

However, under the new film policy, the Jammu and Kashmir government has brought the permit system under the Public Service Guarantee Act (PSGA). The J&K government has to give permission to the filmmakers within 30 stipulated days. Filmmakers can apply for a permit online.

The government will also provide these filmmakers various incentives for shooting in the Kashmir valley. Also, the local artists will get a chance to work with these filmmakers on their respective projects.

Last year, the government launched its first policy to attract filmmakers. They also established a Film Development Fund (FDF) in the Department of Information for the fiscal year 2022–2023 to pay subsidies under the J&K 2021 film policy.

Many films and music videos have been shot in the valley over the past year. Notable among them are the music videos of Udit Narayan, Vijay Deverakonda’s “Kushi”, and Aamir Khan starrer “Lal Singh Chaddha”. Along with film, various documentaries and web series have also been shot in the valleys of Kashmir.

Cinema Returns To Kashmir Valley

With the return of the Indian film industry to the Kashmir Valley, the first multiplex channel also opened this month. Valley Cinemas, which had closed in the early 1990s, and opened after three decades.
