Louvre Abu Dhabi Has Arabian Gulf-Like Rehabilitation Lagoons Where Rescued Turtles Will Have A Temporary Home!

Turtle spotting on the shores of the emirate is surely one of the best sights. We all know for a fact that the survival of sea turtles in the Arabian Gulf is thin. The reason behind this is the temperature of the water, which changes drastically. Many such turtles are rescued and given a new life. Louvre Abu Dhabi is now home to these rescued turtles in Arabian Gulf-like rehabilitation lagoons.

Turtle Rehabilitation Lagoons In The Louvre Abu Dhabi

The Louvre Abu Dhabi is now home to ten rehabilitated green and hawksbill sea turtles. They were transported from the National Aquarium to the museum in a controlled lagoon. The lagoon has been carefully designed in a way that its conditions replicate the Arabian Gulf, as the turtles are almost ready to get back into the wild.

The transfer of these endangered turtles is the result of an agreement. The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) signed a MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) with EAD, which is the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi. Under the agreement, Louvre Abu Dhabi was asked to create these rehabilitation lagoons.

The Turtles Will Be Carefully Monitored

The turtles will be monitored throughout their stay in the museum until their release period. The museum will have a dedicated team from the National Aquarium for this work. The turtles will be released back into the Gulf depending on the season, probably in March or April. The lagoon here has zooplankton, salinities,  phytoplankton, and the sea temperature.

The strategic affairs executive director of the Department of Culture and Tourism Abu Dhabi said that the museum will allow visitors to know about the turtle rehabilitation. They will be informed about it soon through a programme of events, seminars, and exhibitions said that the museum will allow visitors to know about the turtle rehabilitation.
